4th Annual 30 in 30...Day Four - THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN (1976)...
The theme for this week seems to be "never before seen" horror movies. Well, here it comes...released in the year of my birth. This was an extremely low-budget horror film that predates just about any known slasher film series. It even came before Halloween and you can see some obvious influences in later well known horror movies, esp the first two Friday the 13ths (Jason even steals the bag over the head gig in Part 2!). Based on a true story of a sneaky killer in Texarkana (and filmed there) who they never found and how a whole town was scared to death of his killing sprees.
This was pretty good considering it was one of the first of its kind. The "big star" was Dawn Wells aka Mary Ann on Gilligan's Island. But she doesn't show up until at least 3/4 of the way through and only then its to get shot, bleed everywhere and nearly killed by the madman. Haha!
Beware, he's still out there....maybe!
