4th Annual 30 in 30...Day 24 - HALLOWEEN (1978)...

Yes, I know I'm like a week behind in my 30 for 30. I'm getting there...so last night this happened AT THE THEATER!!!

"I met him, fifteen years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding; and even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and the blackest eyes... the devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil."

You don't need to know anything other than that.

I mean....Damn.

More Halloween sketchy sketchy...

The Three Amigos...

Boo.

And sue me...I like drawing xenomorphs...

4th Annual 30 in 30...Day 23 - DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978)...

The ultimate, classic zombie flick. Every time you see a remake or a video game use the shopping mall setting - well, this is where that idea came from. Honestly, there is a ton of black humor and social satire in this - it uses the basis of a horror film with flesh eating zombies as its foundation. There are almost no redeeming qualities concerning humanity or survival. This is hell on earth and what's left of the human race at its most selfish.

This story is simple - we open on a news room gone nuts, essentially the next morning after the original "Night of the living Dead" - four individuals - Stephen "Fly Boy" and his pregnant girlfriend Francine, and police soldiers Peter and Roger, escape in a helicopter. They find an abandoned shopping mall and set up shop, ridding it of zombies and fortifying it against other greedy humans. Tom Savini created all of the spectacular practical effects and gore...for its time, a groundbreaking body of work. Savini even gets to play a crazed Biker with a machete - you can guess how that all ends up!

A lot of this movie's charm is in its many memorable "zombie" characters - there are children zombies, one who gets his head sheared off by running helicopter blades, the one in the flannel, the baseball player, the nun, and there is even a Hare Krishna that is one of the creepiest of the entire movie. They even made an action figure of this guy! I'm kinda sad I missed out on one of these!

In the end, it's just the dead's world...and we are all living (and dying) in it.

Quick Comics Post....Predator: Fire and Stone #1...

I am a sucker for anything Predator, especially new comics with panels like these:

Dammit that's badass.

Also, NECA is releasing (or has released) a figure based on the Pred in this issue...ACK!!! Here's a sketch from them...

Happy Halloween Sketchy...

Because there aren't enough skull-pumpkin pictures in the world today.

4th Annual 30 in 30...Day 22 - ROSEMARY'S BABY (1968)...

Goin' waaay back...all the way to 1968 baby! The classic psychological horror film starring Mia Farrow. Rosemary and her actor husband (named Guy - LOL) move into a large apartment in New York. They meet some of the tenants as Rosemary slowly discovers that something dark and ominous is happening in the next room. What transpires is a horrific journey, quite literally, into hell. I'm sure there are some parallels between this and pregnancy - none of which I am qualified to comment on. Haha. Still, capable acting and a creepy story have helped this to endure over the years.

"What did you do to his eyes?"

This film is a slow burn, but everything builds towards the frightening reveal in the last ten minutes. A must watch thriller/classic horror film.

4th Annual 30 in 30...Day 21 - I do what I WANT!!!!

This has to be as far away from horror as it gets this month, even though some pretty horrible things happen during this movie. So far, these movies are well made and well acted. I don't feel like I'm being insulted when I watch them. I may have liked this even better than the first one - even though the guy who plays Peeta is one of the most wooden actors in all of Hollywood. Gah...

Don't worry. I always tend to get one mainstream release in here during the 30 in 30. Some of the classics of horror are coming this week so get ready!
