PAK FA

I've pretty much decided that my next scale model project will be the Revell 1/72 scale Sukhoi Pak Fa. I've been looking around for camo ideas and came across the two below.

The blue is incredibly classic and fits this plane perfectly, as far as I know this is the only "actual" camo used on this aircraft so far...

..but this scheme is very tempting...more white used here, which suggests more of a cold weather themed camo application. May substitute a darker sea blue for the dark grey areas.

What say you friends?

1/48 Zeke...some green...

A small update - got a light coat of the top green coat - mixture of Dark Green and Olive Green. I purposefully left some areas barely covered to show natural wear. That hot pacific sun was murder on those zero paint jobs...some pics...

1/48 Zeke...Two Coats...

Main fuselage, wings, stabilizers and tail put together. Canopy front and back pieces attached - Gonna try an "open canopy" look on this one to show off the cockpit work that I've done. Here are the prelim taping off pictures...

Close-up of the provided canopy masks...always a plus...

Trying a new/old method for the wheel wells...sponge cut to the shape and stuffed in the hole. Allowed to expand back out, in theory, this should cover all of the painted parts below. We shall see.

First Coat of base mixture - White - German Grey - and a dab of Olive Green...

Second coat of of White - Light Blue - Yellow mixture. This has a slight "blue grey" tint to it depending on the light. The pictures actually make it look better than it does in person I think. Hopefully I can get the top side green on it so that it looks natural.

The Minimalist Approach...TOS

Had this one rolling around in my head for a few days...had to get it down. One of my favorite early episodes of The Original Series. Perhaps I will do a few more?

Tried to find an old school looking font that you might have seen in the 1960s...don't know if i succeeded or not.

1/48 Zeke...more interior work...

Never as much time to work as I plan on the weekend. But I did finish a good bit of construction to get the main fuselage together. Lots of little pieces and parts...but so far the fit has been extraordinary.

Wheel wells painted the Zero teal and glued in to the lower wings...

Photo etches wing tip arms. These were tiny - had to bend them up using TWEEZERS! Sheesh!

Nose construction...

1/48 Zeke...Inner workings...

For the first week or so of this build, I've been concentrating solely on the cockpit and front engine area. I'm pretty proud of the 'Pit despite the fact that most of it will be covered up once the model itself is finished. I'm beginning to understand why so many pro modellers go overboard on this part - there are a lot of interesting pieces/parts and one of the most complex parts of a model. To each their own I guess...

A nice shot of the dials, buttons, triggers, etc...those are decals on the main dashboard...I may not have placed them EXACTLY on the dial faces, but considering they are no bigger in diameter than the tip of a large ink pen, I think it came out ok. Lots of MicroSol and a careful X-acto knife tip helped with this...

Seat belts...decal also...big enough to flop over all the edges of the seat...

More buttons and gears...

The engine...

Sidewalls inside the fuselage, need to detail some of the buttons on these panels, but the glue was still drying when these pics were taken.
