Top 20 Horror Films...Number One.

Number One - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Tagline: Who will survive and what will be left of them?

Dirty. Nasty. Blood-soaked. Dripping with sweat. Evil and disgusting. You just know something isn't right when they pick up that skinny dude on the side of the road. My God, the family dinner scene. Grandpa's still kicking!!! GAG! Best horror scream in the history of horror movies. Leatherface is the icon - there are none sicker. I just gagged again.

THAT'S ALL FOLKS!!!!

Top 20 Horror Films...#2...

#2 The Exorcist (1973)
Memorable quote: "The power of Christ compels you."

You never forget the first time you see a little demon girl's head spin completely around. The self-proclaimed Scariest Movie of All Time. I won't argue with that.

Top 20 Horror films...#3...

#3 Alien (1979)
Tagline: In space, no one can hear you scream.

Quite simply, the best science fiction horror film ever made. It will never be topped - superb sets, score, creature effects, gore, atmosphere, acting and story. A masterwork for Ridley Scott. Sigourney Weaver is the quintessential horror heroine, hell even Jonesy the cat gets a great scene here and there. You think it can't get any worse than the facehugger, then the chestburster scene happens...the finest moment of agony and death ever witnessed in a motion picture - is it bad to call it art when someone is literally torn apart from the inside? No CGI here, kiddies! H.R. Giger's creature design has been copied a hundred times since he set the bar with this. Highest standard in every way...now I need to go watch it again. ACK!

Top 20 Horror Films....#4...

#4 Hellbound: Hellraiser II

Tagline: Time to Play

Memorable Quotes: "...trick us again, child...and your suffering will be legendary, even in hell."

"The doctor...is in."

Clive Barker not only takes us to hell, he lets us play around down there. Doug Bradley's finest hour. One of the best horror sequels ever...it not only goes deeper into the mythology of the original, it blows the original out of the water. And that's saying something. Time to play, indeed.

Top 20 Horror films...#5...

#5 Re-Animator (1985)
Tagline: "Herbert West has a good head on his shoulders...and another one on his desk."

The ultimate mad scientist horror film. Jeffrey Combs will always be known as Dr. Herbert West. You'll never look at glowing green goop and intestines the same way ever again. Best soundtrack in horror outside of Jaws and Halloween hands down. Perfection.

Top 20 Horror films....#6...

#6 Godzilla (Japan 1954)
Horror icon introduced: Duh....Godzilla

Stay with me here for a minute. It's hard to accept the original as a horror movie due to the neverending series of sequels over the last FIFTY years. Those became Godzilla versus the newest monster threat of the week - and as classic as they were, relied more on camp and comedic monster battles on most occasions. The original IS a horror movie, plain and simple. It was a metaphor for the atom bomb and it far reaching effects, for the horrors of war itself, and for humanity's folly with death and destruction. One of the best anti-war messages ever - in the form of a giant beast destroying Tokyo.
