1/48 Su-27..wheels...

Well, due to watching hours and hours of the Olympics this weekend, I did not get to do much on the Flanker this weekend, but I did get started on installing the wheel struts and well panels...

1/48 su-27...engine reference...

As a followup to my latest post...here is a reference shot of a highly weathered su-27. Notice the green highlights.

1/48 Su-27...Engines are a dirty business...

Ok here we go with some finished engine cowling shots post tape removal. Mixed Burnt Umber, Silver, and some German (dark) Grey for a nice shiny brownish color. Overall I'm pretty pleased with the color and the application. There were some bleed through areas, but those may not be so bad in the end, seeing as how I still need to weather this thing up. What do you think?

Several bleed throughs here, but all in all not too bad. Some touch up here or there...

Another angle of the green panel on the tail fin. Minor touchup needed.

1/48 Su-27...more green...

Sprayed a second coat of a darker green on the tail fins and nose cone. This is closer to what I had envisioned...a few sneak peeks...removed the Tamiya model tape to check some edges...overall very pleased minus a few areas that need some touching up...

Gun panel painted in german grey...this should pop more once I get some panel lines weathered...

1/48 Su-27...it ain't easy being green...

Decided to go with the green highlights on the tail fins and nose cone instead of the boring white like you see on every Flanker these days...

Trying to match the dark green on these top two schemes here...

Here is my first attempt at brushes on an Olive Drab Green...not sure I like the color, feel it needs to be darker BUT I definitely like the green when coupled with the camo. What do you think?

Second coat of light blue, and first coat of secondary german grey/pale sea blue camo spots...including a bench shot...

1/48 Su-27...first coat...

Some progress...Pale Blue first coat down....doesn't look too bad...

Good example of the top side panel lines...this thing should weather nicely...

Top of the cockpit and nose cone...

Underneath...some beading can be seen in between the intake housing, but that's usually the case with the first coat.

1/48 Su-27 ...prepping for paint...

This really has taken forever, partly my fault and partly because they are so many pieces and parts that have to be fit just right...

Below is my first scratch built addition...on one piece of the left tail fin there is an antenna piece that was supposed to glue on but frankly it did not fit well at all and looked really crappy. So I dove into my parts box and came out with an old machine gun mount from an old JU-87 Stuka kit. I shaved some parts off the back and side and it fit into the tail groove perfectly! Kinda even looks like antennae as well which works out great. What do you think? I zoomed in for detail...

Top view overall, notice wing tip missles pylons glued on.

Canopy taped up for painting...

I told you there were a lot of missiles!

More missiles and wheel detail...

Oops...how did these get in there?
