Fifth Annual 31 in 31...Day 27 ... "Death has come to your little town, sheriff."

Halloween / 1978

The godfather of slasher films. Can stand toe to toe with anything from the classic era of the 1970s - Texas Chainsaw, Exorcist, Alien, and then this. Perfectly summed up by Dr. Sam Loomis' quote:

"I met him, fifteen years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding; and even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and the blackest eyes... the devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil."

Perfect.

Turn around, Laurie.

Fifth Annual 31 in 31...Day 26 ... "Why Horror?"

Why Horror? / 2015

A nice documentary from horror fan Tal Zimmerman's perspective on why we love horror so much as a society. He looks at his own childhood and growing up with it to modern day. I'm pretty jealous of the trips he takes during the filming of this, especially when he goes to a horror themed bar/restaurant in Tokyo, Japan to meet new friends. That's awesome.

Hey, that looks like my room!

Halloween sketchin'...and other stuff...

Various stuff...First is Pazuzu from The Exorcist...

Then, something I've been wanting to do for a while...got a new pen, so I went to it. "From hell's heart....I STAB AT THEE!"

And finally...some Walking Dead character practice from comic page reference...lots of subtle detail put in by that comic's artist...only when I try to copy them do I notice it...

And Mike...

The home stretch...more posters and some inktober sketches...

Final dumpage on some 31 in 31 inspired vintage posters. Several versions of some because I couldn't just pick one.

And some quick inktober sketches...

Fifth Annual 31 in 31...Day 25 ... "The day will come when everyone will know who you are but that day is not yet."

Damien: Omen II / 1978

Interesting sequel to the 1976 original - this is honestly more of a political thriller than it is a straight horror movie. Surely, some horrible things happen, but it's very much in the vein of what corrupt and evil moguls would do in the cut-throat world of international business...with the son of Satan thrown right in the middle.

Several tense scenes here: the crow attack, the elevator cord, the train yard and the beginning archeological dig cave-in. Damien will let no one stand in his way as his carefully placed assistants watch over his reign.

Nod to Lance Henriksen as a mysterious General where Damien begins his education.

Fifth Annual 31 in 31...Day 24 ... "I can read - you see that shoe? That shoe says Adidas..."

The Program / 1993

This isn't a horror movie by any means, but it's my blog so I can do what I want! This is a pretty bad movie overall, but I will always remember it fondly as I was at the filming of several scenes in glorious Williams-Brice Stadium on the campus of THE University of South Carolina. It was filmed on the same day the Gamecocks shocked Tennessee 24-23 in 1992. The movie has a TON of 90s stars in addition to James Caan as head coach. Also starring Halle Berry, Omar Epps, Craig Sheffer, Kristy Swanson and Andrew Bryniarski as roid rager Lattimer. I remember there being a big "to-do" about a 'chicken' scene where the football team laid in the road in the way of oncoming traffic as a team unity ritual. Of course, some dumb teenagers tried it in real life and got killed so of course that scene was cut out of the film - it nows exists only on youtube. How different things are today!

Still love this movie to this day though, its really cheesy and funny and has a ton of glorious shots of W-B and the SC campus.

Pretty sure those were USC band members in the back wearing ESU uniforms for the movie...

Starting Defense!

Well that's pretty scary I guess...
