A LOT of interesting things happened in the world of comics this year. So much so that I kept it to my Top 5 comic titles, which was tough in its own right!
Offering a page of my favorite artwork or scene from each title, here we go...
#5 Uncanny X-Force. Its final issue just came out. It's been up and down over the last year or so but ended with a satisfactory bang.
#4 Star Trek. It's odd but this one has actually bucked the trend and gotten better in the last few months. Should bode well for leading into the new movie in 2013.
#3 American Vampire. Most consistent book on the shelf. It never dips in quality. About to go into a year long hiatus. *sniff*
#2 Manhattan Projects. Most original comic of the year. Mad scientists, aliens, historical figures, cults, super weapons and heavy machine guns. Nice.
#1 BATMAN. Scott Snyder continues to destroy. The Court of Owls, Mr. Freeze, and now The Joker. Excellent.
Honorable Mentions: The Walking Dead - Nothing to Fear, Saga, Planetoid, the beginning of the Marvel Now titles, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Hellraiser, and Godzilla The Half Century War.

BEST OF 2012...Movies
Big Hollywood most definitely made a comeback in 2012 for me. I was pleasantly surprised with nearly all of my anticipated films. So here we go...
#5 The Avengers
Well done esp considering I wasn't a huge fan of any of the Marvel movies leading up to this. Big and fun and true to the characters in my opinion. HULK SMASH! Big things to come...
#4 Skyfall
About as good a Bond film as any in the franchise's history. Daniel Craig owns the role and Javier Bardem is quite nasty. Excellent film.
#3 The Raid - Redemption
Absolute "Guns & Kung Fu" mania! The fight scenes and soundtrack are nuts!!! Exciting! One of the best experiences in the theater all year for me.
#2 Prometheus
Definitely one of the most thought provoking movies of 2012. A welcome return to the world of ALIEN. It opens quite a few doors and shows us many strange and also familiar things in a very unique universe. Welcome back, Ridley.
#1 The Dark Knight Rises
As much for the film that it is as for the trilogy it concludes. Our Modern Classic. It will be a long time before a comic character is given this kind of depth again, if ever. Rise indeed.
Honorable Mentions: Act of Valor, The Expendables 2, Chronicle, Cabin in the Woods, The Grey, Sinister
Addendum 12.27.12 - HALLOWEEN (1978)
The original classic made a return to theaters this year for Halloween. Couldn't pass this up and it was worth mentioning since this film exceeds being ranked. Hope to catch more classics like this in the near future!
...which then leads me to...
Modern Film Fest 2012 in Kannapolis, NC - October 2012.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
featuring a Meet and Greet with Director Nicholas Meyer. The highlight movie going experience of 2012 for me, perhaps of my entire life. The greatest movie in history in an old balcony style movie theater. Perfection. KHAAAAANNNNN!!!!

John Harrison...Into Darkness
Star Trek Into Darkness.
With the new full length trailer out this week I've had a few more ideas rolling around in my head since the Criterion Cover from last week. Similar to my Evil Dead poster from a few weeks back, grabbed some nice face shots and used a quote from each of the first two teasers to complete each one. I'm ready!
Captain Kirk...

You think your world is safe...The Criterion Collection...
So I'm getting a bit ahead of myself here. Instead of a new poster - which I'm sure more will come in time - instead I put together a new Criterion cover. I've been wanting to do another one of these since my Bride of Re-Animator a few months back. Enjoy!
