Eduard 1/72 BF 110 G-2...Yellow...

While it snows/sleets here today on the Eastern Front...a bit of detail painting. Yellow wing tips and engine cowlings.

Eduard 1/72 Bf 110 G-2...Camo Coating...

The painting adventure continues...

Taped up the top of the 110 and ready for second, darker coat of camo paint...decided on basic German Grey for the darker camo layer.



Touched up the canopies with a second coat as well...seem to be ok.





After drying for about 2 hours, I carefully removed all tape and here we go! I am ecstatic at how this turned out.





Here you can see some of the mottling down the fuselage - very hard to do, but with low air pressure and careful strokes, I got this result.



Flyby...



Keep in mind this is the scheme I'm going for basically. It's not perfect, but I think I'm close!

1/72 Eduard Bf110 G-2...Weekend Prep...

Quite a bit of work on the 110 this weekend. Finished off the canopy masks first...this looks like a lot of work and I guess it is, but it's helped that they are so easy to get on and very high quality.







First coat of black paint on canopies and panel lines. This always looks messy at the beginning...









Quick bench shot...wait 2 hours...



Final coating for bottom? Mixture half Light Sea Grey and half Pale Blue with one drop of black mixed in. Just about right. Wait two more hours.





First of final two coats on top. Green Grey only. Almost there...





This shot thrown in just to show the two different shades from top to bottom...looking good so far...

Eduard 1/72 BF 110 G-2...insanity...

So yeah, I won't be painting on the 110 for a few days because this is happening...

Gotta say, despite the tiny nature of the canopy parts and the teeny masks, its very good quality. It better be, for something this detailed and specific to even work right! Patience is a virtue!

Retro Movie Review...George A. Romero's Day of the Dead (1985)...

Past due for me to review this gem - it's previously appeared here on my blog as #19 on my all time Top 20 Horror Films List. This movie didn't garner a lot of praise upon its initial release in 1985. It had the unfortunate task of following the much loved Dawn of the Dead and was soon forgotten..I was only 9 at the time and of course, not allowed to see it. Only pictures in Fangoria magazine were what made me aware of it...and that's the way it would be until several years later. Arguably the darkest of Romero's original three, it features a world completely overrun by the Dead. A group of scientists and soldiers are holding up in an abandoned bunker underground and losing their sh*t slowly but surely.



Captain Rhodes is one of the most unintentional hilarious horror characters of the 1980s - he's always yelling, squinting and cussing. In a bleak story, he provides a ton of comedic material while retaining his hard ass military persona. Sarah, the lone female, leads the scientist contingent that is opposite of Rhodes' military posse in terms of sanity and approach to their situation. Smack in the middle is Dr. "Frankenstein" Logan who is performing experiments on the corpses in an attempt to figure out the cause of all this. He even has a "pet" - a zombie he has trained - named Bub.



Bub turns out to be the most sympathetic character in the film, and the film never suffers for it. What should be a totally ridiculous aspect of a "domesticated" zombie in fact elevates the movie to something more than its predecessors. That's no small feat.

All in all, the "final" movie in Romero's original trilogy is a festival of extreme gore, dark humor, and colorful characters with sharp dialogue. It's an 80s movie (pop synth score!) for sure and I'm glad it's finally getting its due in today's world. It's a perfect companion and continuation of Romero's first two films.

Eduard 1/72 Bf 110 G-2 - a light undercoat...

Got the first coat of paint on the 110 and rocket pods, tanks, wheel flaps...honestly it came out a bit more blue than I imagined - a mixture of Dark Sea Blue/grey and Pale Blue.







Looks a bit more "grey" here depending on the light...most of it will be covered with either a second coat or the top side Green splinter scheme...



The bench....here you can really see the blue tint...

A lot of tiny and tedious detail work this weekend...but I think I am ready for base coating next...

Some final shots of the cockpit wiring and panels...



Had to fill a gap right on the top center of the nose. I hope this sanded off smoothly...once painted it might be ok...



Here is the insane part...pylon struts for the fuel tanks and rocket pods...literally less than 1/8 inch in length. They are supposed to be at different angles front to back...HAH...I am lucky I got them IN period.







The back view - not too bad on getting it even...plus you can see the flaps I glued in the down position...
