30 in 30...DAY EIGHT...A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET PART 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE (1985)

I have to be honest, this is the Elm Street I like the least. I've seen it maybe ten times over the years. It's not that doesn't have good moments, but it isn't as inventive or as fun as most of the other installments. It comes across as a generic sequel with a few gags to keep you interested. At least they got Freddy's appearance right in this one:





Extra points for the Power Station poster in the background, as they were a hit band back in 1985! haha!



No major stars of note, other than the jock guy from Weird Science. And of course this one copies the original's "Gotcha!" ending...

Next up, one I'm really excited about - The Creature from the Black Lagoon! Will probably end up inking this one, but its in pencil for now.

30 in 30 DAY SEVEN - The Monster Squad (1987)

How in the world did I miss seeing this movie as a kid? All the classic monsters appear in this one - Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein, The Mummy and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. A group of kids have a "Monster Squad" that meets in secret and they discover the monsters are coming to steal an amulet and unleash evil on the world. It's definitely made for the PG-13 Goonies crowd that was the popular thing at this point in the mid to late 80s. I honestly don't remember much hoopla over this movie when it came out, but it has a huge cult following today. It's unfortunate this one didn't garner more praise and success upon its initial release.

Some spectacular creature suits, of course - Stan Winston created them. My favorite was the Gillman - some obvious Predator influence can be seen!

We get another triple threat of recognizable actors here as well!

First off is The Wayner aka Jason Hervey of The Wonder Years as a school bully...



And the award for "that guy with that face" goes to Leonardo Cimino...known simply as Scary German Guy. He has been in several bit parts over the years, including Dune as the baron's doctor.



Also appearing is Jon Gries as the Wolfman - also known for playing Laslow in Real Genius and more recently as Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite. His character is also involved with the best line of the movie - "WOLFMAN'S GOT NARDS!!!" Hahahahah...

30 in 30 - DAY SIX - The Warriors (1979)...850 POSTS!!!

Not a horror movie this time around, but a cult classic for sure. I had never seen this before watching it this week. I can understand why it is so loved by so many. Lots of atmosphere, characters and cool dialogue. So many one liners from this movie are used over and over again in pop culture...I had a lot of fun watching this one. Definitely recommended. Basically a top gang boss gets killed at a rally and by deception, the gang known as the Warriors get blamed for it. Most of the film is their journey back across the New York City landscape as they are hunted by all of the rival gangs on their way home to Coney Island.

"You're standing right now with nine delegates from 100 gangs. And there's over a hundred more. That's 20,000 hardcore members. Forty-thousand, counting affiliates, and twenty-thousand more, not organized, but ready to fight: 60,000 soldiers! Now, there ain't but 20,000 police in the whole town. Can you dig it?" -- Cyrus --





One of my favorite "gangs" in the movie, The Furies - all dressed up in to baseball uniforms with painted faces and baseball bats!





Cool "oh yeah" moment - David Patrick Kelly plays Luther who helps to hunt down The Warriors. I know him best as T-Bird from the first Crow film. He was a lot younger here and had a bit more hair as well.

30 IN 30 - DAY FIVE - PIECES (1982)

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO TEXAS TO HAVE A CHAINSAW MASSACRE!



A pretty straight forward campy "whodunit" gorefest from the early 80s. Chainsaw murderer gets loose on a college campus - blood flies, mayhem ensues. Somehow, throughout all of these grisly out-in-the-open murders - some in broad daylight - the college campus remains open and students go to class during the whole ordeal! Haha! Some pretty grisly stuff, so much so that I really can't post any of THOSE pictures. A fun slasher film featuring a well respected British actor - Edmund Purdom. I want to say he was a vampire or some other such creature in some other movie but perhaps I'm thinking of someone else.

The Memphis Belle

So the Memphis Belle was in town this weekend. This was not the actual plane from WW2 - that is in a museum in Dayton, OH I found out this weekend. This was the filming model used in the film "Memphis Belle" - still very cool - living history. Unfortunately, we couldn't get into it as they were giving rides back to back until late in the afternoon and we were there pretty early. Didn't want to wait around for 3-4 hours but I did get some vids of takeoff and landing and some great shots:











If you look closely here, you can see two nazi swastikas above the tail cannons. Very cool little detail...



Also there nearby was a B25 Mitchell bomber. It is in its own hanger and they are attempting to restore it. If memory serves, it was recovered from Lake Greenwood, SC. Very very cool bonus I wasn't expecting. We did get to walk up to this one and see it up close.

Inside the B-25 hanger were also several items of interest...several models, some old dials, a large B-17 painting and some flight helmets...





This thing was huge.
