1/48 Slovak Mig 29...more decals...

...And the adventure continues...

A bit more work done on the decals yesterday afternoon...I'm discovering that some need to be layered so those have to go down first and allowed to dry. It's a good thing these decals are strong and some of the best I've ever used.

The bench...

This was almost a disaster - the decals are shaped to fit OVER the vents on either side of the cockpit. AGH! After I let it dry I decided to trim the parts of the decal OUT of the vent opening (left side)...there are some rough edges BUT with a little coaxing with Microsol all those loose ends should sit down. You can see a pre-cut decal on the right side in the below pic. Will trim down tonight. All in all, not a bad result.

Tail fins. Still a lot of drying and microsol touch-up to be done, but you can see just how much of the actual model is covered here. Wow. And I was worried about my paint job. Ha!

1/48 Slovak Mig 29...sneak peak...

Working on the decals over the weekend. Slowly but surely, things are coming together...decals are going on nicely. A few preview shots below as various areas are drying with the Microsol. More to come today hopefully.

Weathering fuel tanks..an idea...

Found this on a forum while researching another kit...neat way to weather drop tanks on a jet. I'm assuming there is a second color underneath the top gray...lightly scuffed/scratched with a balled up piece of tin foil. That's a pretty impressive and realistic effect I must say.

1/48 Slovak Mig 29...Final preps for Future...

Well, I think we are finally ready! Final prep before I lather the whole thing up with a layer of Future for decals...

Underside with all wheels attached, wheel well panels and drop tank firmly in place...

Engines glued in...what they don't tell you is that these add weight to the back end so now the mig sits on its rump. Hopefully when the missile struts and weapons go on, that will rectify that.

Side wheel panel. Added some silver to the light pod sticking off the main panel. There is also a clear piece that goes on the front that I will add towards the end of the build.

Front wheel with wheel guard attached.

Front test view...nice front profile...minus the missiles.

1/48 Slovak Mig 29...Tarmac test...

I may be changing my base...decided to try a printable tarmac. Constructed in Indesign using photoshop and illustrator elements at various transparencies...thoughts?

1/48 Slovak Mig 29...wheels and struts...

Some minor but needed work on the wheel wells and panels. Wanted to get this done so when I apply the future polish I can use the wheels to sit it down on for drying. Plus I hate gluing wheel panels on, so at least I'm getting this done. So far, so good...some areas/struts need some touch-up paint...waiting on the glue to dry solid.

Front wheel strut...

One of the side wheel wells.

Tires painted black with a dark green center.
