In celebration, BBC America ran an Original Series marathon. They played 4 incredible episodes back to back to back to back.
Amok Time. Best known for the immortal fight theme music when Kirk and Spock face off, one of my favorite moments in all of Trek happens at the end when Spock realizes he has not, in fact, killed his captain.

Mirror Mirror. Spock has a beard and all of our heroes are power hungry mad men. Before good Kirk leaves, he says this to mirror Spock:
"In every revolution there's one man with a vision."
Mirror Spock: "Captain Kirk, I shall consider it."

City on the Edge of Forever. The greatest episode of TV and Star Trek. Ever.
Kirk has to sacrifice his true love, Edith Keeler, for the sake of the known universe.
Edith: "I still have a few questions I'd to ask about you two. Oh, and don't give me that "Questions about little old us?" look. You know as well as I do how out of place you two are around here."
Spock: Interesting. "Where would you estimate we belong, Miss Keeler?"
Edith Keeler: [to Spock] "You? At his side, as if you've always been there and always will."
God, that is wonderful.

Balance of Terror. Romulans, Cloaking Devices, Submarines in space.
What a way to cap it off. McCoy has his best line in the history of the series in this:
"In this galaxy, there's a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets. And in all of the universe, three million million galaxies like this. And in all of that... and perhaps more, only one of each of us.
...Don't destroy the one named Kirk."

Sunday, I saw the 35th Anniversary of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan in the theater. The best movie ever made. In History. Period.
There are none higher. It isn't even up for debate.
"Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human."
