It's that time of year again!!! Change of venue and location this year - even closer to home! Here we go...
Walking up and we see this first thing...more on this guy later.
Every year the whole thing is so overwhelming. I have to walk around and let it wash over me - see where everything is. First celeb I met was Mark Patton - Jesse from a Nightmare on Elm Street 2 - Freddy's Revenge. Extremely nice guy - we spoke about working on Nightmare and Kim Myers, Robert Englund and Robert Rusler and the close bond they all still share. We also spoke about art and I gave him some pieces I drew just for him. He loved it - gave me two autographs and a photo in return. Great, great experience!
Right next to his table was Felissa Rose aka Angela from the classic cult slasher Sleepaway Camp. Another amazing guest...she said it was just like going to summer camp, only they got to be in a movie at the same time. And of course that face at the end...hee hee
And then this happened...
Pantera is my favorite metal band. So when Phil Anselmo comes to one of these...you go and meet him. Damn. He gave me a high five and we slapped hands and he gave me a huge bear hug - like we had been friends for years. Very intense dude...saw my 'The Thing' shirt and we discussed the finer points of non CGI filmmaking and how awesome that movie is. Yeah. Talked about him playing a DOWN show to a little over 200 people that I attended and how great it was to see. He thanked me, high fived again. Hell yeah.
Next up - Tim Cappello - the sax man from The Lost Boys. He was also Tina Turner's saxophone player in the 1980s. Great guy to speak with...said the concert scene in Lost Boys only took two hours to film...they were done and partying in Corey Haim's room by 10 that night! HA! I STILL BELIEVE!
He told me to show my guns. HAHAHAH!!!
Then if that wasn't enough...GODZILLA HIMSELF was there...Tsutomu Kitagawa who wore the Godzilla suit from 1999-2004 aka the Millenium Godzilla. He had a table FULL of Godzilla stuff and even art he had drawn himself. Incredible.
Now to the legends category of the program. Judith O'Dea of the original Night of the Living Dead was in attendance along with Russ Streiner who played brother Johnny to her character Barbra. Amazing to meet her...so kind and welcoming. She even asked US the kinds of zombies we preferred - slow or fast. HA! Really endearing lady and presence. She seems genuinely amazed that this "little" movie she made 50 years ago is still so loved.
The Mother of all Zombies.
They're coming to get you...
A guy even brought his cat, and it was enjoying all of the attention from fans and celebs alike...HA!
John Carl Buechler - director and designer of the Jason makeup in Friday VII - The New Blood.
Some Star Wars dudes...
Bumblebee made an appearance too. Ridiculous!
There were several Mike Myers clones walking around all day outside. They never broke character, just stood there, staring. I took this guy's picture and gave him a thumbs up. He simply nodded. HA! Awesome.
Last guest was Kane Hodder - Jason Voorhees from Part VII - X. He is one imposing dude, but extremely nice to talk to. He basically choked me out. HAHA! Also caught his and John's Q&A panel which was great. Always nice to hear the stories from the Golden Age...like Part VII still being Kane's favorite Friday film. He loves killing "MFrs" as he put it. HA! Great...
A perfect Jason Goes to Hell cosplay.
Weedwhacker!
Some random stuff...
A few Godzilla relatd trinkets I picked up...tee hee...
Some contrast versions of earlier photos, randoms, etc.
Another great con in the books. So glad this has continued and is an easy day trip. I can't get enough of the experience.
